RI Edu. Commissioner Pulls Certificate of Teacher Accused of DUI

Chris Boardman

Rhode Island's education commissioner, Deborah Gist, has taken the rare step of revoking the teaching certificate of 43 year old Kathleen Borgia.

Borgia was charged with drunk driving at 9 AM on September 28th a block away from Colt Andrews Elementary where she taught second grade.

Borgia resigned last month but pulling her teaching certificate means she can't teach in Rhode Island unless she reapplies for her teaching license.

She was obviously on her way to work. Also, she had been cited on other occasions for being intoxicated at work...I agree with the actions that have been taken...she should not be working with children.
