Mass. Magistrate Recommends Cicilline Brother Stay Jailed

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A federal magistrate in Massachusetts is recommending that the brother of Providence Mayor David Cicilline remain in prison.

John M. Cicilline, who was sentenced to 18 months after pleading guilty to shaking down drug dealer clients, had asked to be released early from prison and to be transferred immediately to a halfway house.

Cicilline argued that his three teenage daughters have been
having problems during his time away. He also says his blood
pressure became elevated in prison since he didn't have his
medication.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Collings said in a recommendation Monday that Cicilline should not be freed early.

A U.S. District court judge will make the final decision.
