UPDATE: Accusations Fly After Providence Accident, Melee with Police

Allegations Range from Men Resisting Arrest to Excessive Use of Police Force

John Eagan

Two cars plowed into the side of 49 Crandall Street, ripping down the chain link fence and knocking
the homeowner right out of his living room recliner.
It all happened around 11 pm Sunday Night in Providence.
Ironically, the two drivers actually knew each other.
But this bizarre accident quickly turned ugly when a crowd began to gather around the accident scene.
Police say they were forced to mace and arrest one of the drivers, 22-year old Timothy DeBritto,
for not having a license and assaulting an officer.
A second man, 20-year old Arthur Sweeney, was then reportedly thrown to the ground by police.
They say he was resisting arrest.
Both men were in Providence District Court today facing a laundry
list of charges.
They deny the charges and claim police got unnecessarily rough with them.
ABC 6 reporter Parker Gavigan has the details...
