The man thought to have disappeared into a pond in Central Falls over the weekend has now been found, and only ABC 6 has video of the man moments after the search ended.
Police are telling us that 51-year old Santos Navarez walked out of a local hospital, but he was never reported missing. He ended up on the streets of Cumberland, scared and shaken up. He has no serious injuries.
Police believe he walked out of the hospital a few days ago. A woman who lives on Temple Place and Shawmut Avenue, next to the Valley Falls Pond in Central Falls, saw the man with two hospital bracelets wandering in her backyard and into the bushes on Sunday. Emergency crews scoured the pond and bushes looking for the man, but found no sign of him.
This morning he was found at the Four Corners on Angel Road in Cumberland. Investigators say Nevarez' bright green hospital bracelet indicates that he is an elopement risk.
Police say Nevarez was on a mission looking for help. Cumberland Rescue took him to Landmark Medical Center to be evaluated, then he will be released to his family.
ABC 6 reporter Malini Basu played double duty on this case, as reporter and as a translator, so police could communicate with Navarez...
