West Warwick Man Dies While in Police Custody

Timothy Martin

An investigation is underway after a West Warwick man died while in police custody.

West Warwick Police responded to Joyal's Liquors after getting reports that someone was trying to damage the store sign.

When officers arrived they found 47 year-old Mark Jackson and tried to take him into custody, that's when he reportedly resisted arrest.

As a result of Jackson's resistance, the police were required to use force to handcuff him.

When the police arrived with Jackson at the West Warwick Police Station, they found him unresponsive and took him to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

this really isnt a surprise, chief brouseau basicly did nothing while his rogue 3rd shift patrolman went out like the s.s.If you dig deep, you will find HUNDREDS of abuse complaints against the wwpd. This same station had a young man park in front of their station with a sign on his car that read "west warwick police lie"..this is coming from a high school kid,if he feels that strongly about it,do you really think he's lying? shame on the west warwick police department. Murderers with badges.

west warwick police officers murdered a man. that is how it should read. they should have been arrested and sent to the ACI that night. they should be tried conviceted and serve time like anyone else. if this was just some civilian or resident of Rhode island, they would be in jail. instead the special privliges of police give them the ability to be paid, after they have committed murder, and negligence in how they acton their jobs. i would have hoped West warwick learned by the station fire

I sure hope they follow up on this with Jackson's best interest and not that of the corrupt West Warwick Police Dept. This type of violence and abuse of power needs to end.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
