PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Supreme Court has overturned a landmark jury verdict against three former makers of lead paint, dealing a blow to the state.
But Attorney General Patrick Lynch had one court victory today.
The court overturned contempt sanctions against Lynch for comments he made during and after the trial. It also threw out fines totaling $15,000.
During the trial, Lynch was quoted as describing the paint companies as those who would -- quote -- "spin and twist the facts." After the verdict, he said the companies could not -- quote -- "duck and run" from their obligations to deal with lead paint problems.
Superior Court Judge Michael Silverstein found him in contempt.
Lynch said this afternoon that while he respects Silverstein, he doesn't regret any of the comments he made.
ABC 6 reporter Julie Ruditzky has more on the court's decision...
