Narragansett Fireworks Canceled to Protect Piping Plover

John Eagan

Bristol is not the only place folks will be flocking to catch a glimpse of fireworks on the 4th.  Narragansett is a major local Independence Day hot spot as well...but not this year.

It caught many people off guard when plans for the Narragansett fireworks display were put on hold because of a protected species.  Apparently a pair of piping plover birds were found 3/4 of mile away from where the fireworks were going to be set off.  The Dunes Club, who is responsible for the display, could have moved the fireworks away from the birds but opted to cancel them all together.

There's only one problem, they haven't really informed many people of the cancellation.
