Immigration Officials Raid 6 Rhode Island Courthouses

Bryan Monaghan

Dozens of advocates and activists demonstrated outside of the downtown Providence ICE office on Tuesday night, protesting an late afternoon raid. Representatives from Immigration and Customs Enforcement tell ABC 6 that almost two dozen people were rounded up, from Kent County Courthouse in Warwick and from the Providence District Court building.

Not too many details are being released, but it is believed the workers were working on maintenance crews in both buildings.

ABC 6 News Anchor Paul Mueller has the story, which you'll see 'Only On 6.'

30-40 million foreign nationals, many of which scream bloody murder every time the LAWS ARE ENFORCED. Does anyone see a problem with this? This amounts to mobe rule over rule-of-law. I know they want to disregard law as they do in their beloved, totally corrupt Mexico but that will lead to creating what they left. It's time to send the message loud and clear that coming here, disrespecting America and it's citizens is not acceptable. We've been nice for 50 years, time for a change.

As for the illegal aliens, no matter how you slice and dice it, they are here illegally and are criminals, and SHOULD be punished, along with those who hired them. Protest all they want, breaking the law has consequences.

Sorry for the multiple posts but 500 character limit is fairly small. I have one more point and I will wait for reply's. You are required to have a valid SSN# to work in this Country. I would like to know who's identity was stolen or were forged documents presented to obtain employment. Using either method is a felony so not only are they in this Country illegally they are criminals as well and should be prosecuted and then deported. I hope the American who's ID was taken over can recover.

The statistics I just posted are for One> yes (1)Ca County. Living in SoCal gives one a unique perspective on what the invasion from the south is doing to our country. City's across this nation that have cracked down on illegal immigration are seeing dramatic results in lower crime, lower unemployment, less strain on hospitals and school districts and fewer social services. Illegal Aliens have no right to demand anything from us!

Thursday, Jul 17 at 10:45 AM Bulldogger wrote ...

This is the cost of the invasion! County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich released new statistics from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services showing that Illegal Aliens collected more than $37 million in welfare and food stamp allocations in November, up $3 million from September 2007. Illegals collected more than $20 million in welfare assistance in November and more than $16 million in food stamp allocations, for a projected annual cost of $444 million.

There is no such thing as "illegal immigration" only people waiting to get the proper visas. To use that term is almost as if they were using the N-word. It's almost invariably used to describe Latin American migrants. I've never seen an example in the media of that term being used to describe the hundreds of thousands of European undocumented from Ireland and Eastern Europe. The thing is, if you are Italian, Greek, Irish, a European Jew, your ancestors were "illegal" immigrants.

Amazing, that illegal alien woman is worried about her "human rights", but doesn't care about the human rights of the American citizens who are displaced when illegals like her break the law and undercut American's wages. If they are so "hard working" why aren't they doing the hard work to demand change in their very wealthy home countries? It seems that like everything else with illegals, they believe that rights are a one way street, for them alone. No wonder their countries are cesspits.

Mary's (11:47) comment is important. This is a routine, and it's bad: Workers complain (sexual harassment, no pay, dangerous conditions) & boss turns them over for deportation. ICE is playing into the game of abusive employers. Nezua's right. The boundaries are new. Indigenous is indigenous. Mexicans they've been here longer than my folks -- which is a long time. No, I'm not "illegal" (pardon my French). I'm an old bat from New England, and there's noplace to send me back to.

I don't who in their right mind would defend the illegal aliens in this story. With access to legal citizens information it would be easy for them to steal A legal citizens identity and whoever supports that should have their status checked as well.

1 of five inmates are illegals. The tune of 90 thousand a year plus each to keep in jail. Ship them out and cancel welfare to anyone able to work and you will fill the jobs. How much easyer is that. No work no money. No welfare for anyone able to work for it. 1/2 of the people on welfare still have jobs under the table anyway.

Nezua, while there is an upper limit to intelligence, you prove there is no limit to ignorance. Mexicans are NOT indigenous to RI! Nor do I know of any indigenous peoples who spoke Spanish before the arrival of Europeans. If this invasion isn't stopped, the end result will be the balkanization of America and civil strife previously unseen in US history.

I want people to stop saying that illegal immagrants are takeing their jobs. We have legal people who are lazy begging for money on all most every corner,And the illegals will work doing what ever when ever they just want money to support a family who came here to the land of the free. As for those who can go to school either drop out or get kicked out, as for illegals they want the opportunity to better themselves. I think only the people who are bad should be deported, the others should stay.

Toss them out and build a wall across the border! As for the "if you aren't a native American you are an immigrant" argument, just remember what happened to THEM when they didn't control who came into their land. If we do not assert our soveriegnty soon, we (today's Americans) will soon find ourselves in the same position.

it's great that they still see America as a land of opportunity but I think they should stop and look at the laws in the countries they are leaving. They are breaking the laws and should be sent back. Apply for entry like the rest!!

The emoployer of these workers, a cntractor, has been in a fight with members of a local community group, Fuerza Laboral, for refusing to pay wages. And what a coincidence, the workers are attacked by ICE. Is it not obvious that ICE is doing the bosses dirty work, intimidating workers? I'm an American citizen and I recognize that ICE is just being used to drag down conditions for everyone. We shouldn't be attacking immigrants without papers, we should be supporting them.

Why is there so much hate for people who are just struggling to feed their kids and make a living. They even aren't making minimum wage (so American citizens aren't going to work those kind of jobs anyway) and many DO pay taxes. It's called a taxpayer ID number (ITINs) and our very own country created that system so we could keep exploiting low-wage workers who don't have Social security #s. Everyone in the US who isn't a native american is a product of immigration so have some compassion.

Where do they get off "demanding" that ILLEGAL aliens be released? Furthermore, isn't a courthouse a sensitive depository for official records? isn't it ironic that they were picked up from courthouses? why aren't those that hire them in the first place punished, instead of treating people who need to make a living like absolute criminals (women with children, pregnant women), escaping destitution from countries that OUR government invades with structural adjustment, paramilitary training...let the lesson of jesus's birth be made clear, his mother mary and his father joseph had no place to give birth and some kind soul let them in...

I am all for "legal" immigration where we know who these people are, where they come from, what diseases they bring. We know nothing about these illegal alliens. We must do more, start with getting rid of the "anchor baby" fiasco that a lot of illegals take advantage of once they are in our country and start to really fine employers who knowingly hire these illegals that take away jobs and resources from people who are here legitimately.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
