A 17 year old boy is dead after witnesses say he was skateboarding when he was hit by a car. His 16-year old friend was riding a bike behind him when the accident happened around 10 pm Wednesday night on a stretch of Route 2 in Warwick.

The pair were in the northbound breakdown lane on Bald Hill Road when the car hit the boy. The force was reportedly so strong that it sent the boy through the car's windshield.

His friend tells ABC 6 that the victim wasn't breathing when he was taken away by an ambulance. The 17-year old later died at Rhode Island Hospital. Police are still investigating whether speed or alcohol were factors. The driver of the vehicle is cooperating with police.
