PawSox lose playoff opener against the Yankees at McCoy

Ken Bell

The Pawtucket Red Sox couldn't muster enough offense or enough pitching to stop the Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees in game one of the best of five International League playoffs at McCoy.

The Yankees beat the PawSox 7 to 1 on the strength of three home runs.  The Yankees roughed up International League pitcher of the year Charlie Zink for six runs on eight hits in 5 1/3rd innings.

The PawSox lone run came on a Gil Velazquez home run in the 5th.

The PawSox host the Yankees for game two on Tuesday at McCoy.  The series then shifts to Scranton for the next three if necessary.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
