PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Workers at Attorney General Patrick Lynch's office have been allowed back into the building after being evacuated because of a suspicious substance in an envelope.
Lynch spokesman Michael Healey said a secretary opening the mail about 11:30 a.m. today found a white powder in an envelope believed to have been sent from an inmate at the state prison.
A Providence Fire Department hazmat team later ruled out any threat and found no known toxic chemical matches.
About 30 to 40 employees from the second floor of the South Main Street building were sent outside for about two hours.
The woman who opened the envelope, who has not been identified, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital as a precaution.
