Public Utilities Commission Agrees to Lower Shutoff Down Payments

Bryan Monaghan

On Monday, the Rhode Island Public Utilities Commission agreed to lower the down payments customers must pay to get their gas or electricity turned back on after being turned off due to nonpayment.

While the down payment usually required is 10% of the oustanding balance, the Commission has agreed to temporarily make that required payment 10 percent.

The news certianly comes as a comfort to those struggling to make ends meet. ABC 6 News Reporter John Guice has more from one family doing all they can to get their utilities turned back on.
