Study Shows Half of RI Bridges are Structurally Deficient

John Eagan

Rhode Island is home to some of the oldest roads and bridges in the country.  And now many are crumbling and in need of major work.  But state officials are saying they don't have the money to fix them all.

Tell the Governor, Senate and General Assembly allow the building of the container port. Garvey bond money was used to build the new rail infustructe, now is the time to use it. Create high paying PRIVATE sector union jobs. Bring in a rifinery, and the LNG plant. Fix the bridges and highways.

The Rhode Island DOT needs to start using advanced technology to reduce the number of structurally deficient bridges, saving taxpayers money for unnecessary repairs or replacements, while assuring safety. Using this technology, called structural monitoring, we are learning that many bridges classified as structurally deficient actually are not. But until your DOT uses more objective, precise technology, they will continue to guess and not know for sure. Check: www.lifespantechnologies.com
