RI Seniors Relying More and More on Community Food Bank, Meals on Wheels

John Eagan

While the economy is sinking, the price we're paying for everything is spiking.  And that's got many Rhode Island seniors asking for help with their most basic needs.

Unfortunately, many are finding themselves where they never thought they'd be...standing in line at a food pantry.

I thought our seniors saved part of their pay since they went through the great depression, or was it that they bought into the whole FDR plan that government is their to help them. Most seniors saved enough for themselves. I think it maybe time to sacrifce the few for the good of the many. Let people raise money for the senior centers. Can you people do that without creating a job and do it as a volunteer work? If you need funds fire the directors of all the not for profits, like at Make A Wish

Not only are seniors running out of money and turning to soup kitchens, but with the recent state budget cuts, many of our local senior centers which provide lunch, and activities are being forced to close, specifically Fox Point Seniors in Providence.

What Do You Think of the State's New Ability to Track Illegal Immigrants?

  • I Like it, illegal immigrants are finding work easily while I rot in line at the unemployment office
  • Bad Idea, These people are taking sub-minimum wage jobs anyway and actual citizens are getting snared in this E-Verify system
