WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - The West Warwick schools have lost a
lawsuit that sought additional funding from the town.
Superior Court Judge Stephen Nugent on Wednesday dismissed the
schools's lawsuit. Rhode Island law permits school districts to sue
municipalities if they feel they've been shortchanged financially.
The lawsuit sought an extra $3.3 million from cash-strapped West
Warwick.
The Providence Journal reports that Nugent said the school
committee never submitted a corrective plan to the town after
realizing it had a steep shortfall, as state law requires. He said
school officials never even tried to balance their fiscal 2009
budget.
A lawyer for the school committee says she plans to appeal.

I concur with you entirely! It is time for the decent people of Rhode Island to say no to spending on such poor schools and other programs to reward a small group.

Finally! A good decision that effects WW. The School Committee intentionally overspent, expecting the courts to side with them for more money. Luckily the judge saw through their game and didn't grant them the extra money. WW residents can't afford to float school administrators and the failed WW school system any longer. If the SC can't run on 49 million dollars then lets start a town voucher system. I know I'd send my kids to a 5k/year private elementary school and save WW 10k per child!
