PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police in Rhode Island shot at and later arrested a bank robbery suspect after spotting him at a downtown Providence gas station.
Police say the 43-year-old suspect, Darin Gray, robbed a Sovereign Bank in Cumberland on Wednesday. State police came across him Thursday evening at the gas station, where Gray was filling up his SUV.
Gray allegedly tried to run over a detective on foot. The detective fired two rounds at the vehicle, but neither shot hit the Jeep or the suspect.
Police say they chased Gray until he crashed his SUV and was arrested. Investigators say they found crack cocaine in the vehicle. Police say he will be charged and is awaiting arraignment.
Gray's last known address was in Cumberland.
