Providence Murder Suspect Held Without Bail

Chris Boardman

PROVIDENCE R.I. (AP) - A Coventry man charged with killing his friend at her Providence apartment has been ordered held without bail.

Travis Garcia was arraigned in Providence District Court Monday
on a murder charge. He did not enter a plea, and the judge directed him to the public defender's office. It was not immediately clear if he had been assigned a lawyer.

Authorities say the 18-year-old Garcia strangled Jeannine Garcia earlier this month. They are not related.

Jeannine Garcia's body was discovered Nov. 8 after Travis Garcia was arrested in Clinton, Conn., driving the victim's car, which he crashed when police tried to pull him over for speeding.

After the arrest, Providence police found Jeannine Garcia's body inside her Providence apartment.

Travis Garcia was arraigned as fugitive Friday in New Haven,
Conn.
