"go after the big dealers" , yeah, why don't you start with the CIA. they're the biggest drug dealer in the world. the US already has the highest percent of its population in prison of any country in the history of the world- more so than Stalin, and yet nobody's any safer. end the drug war, and stop locking people up for drugs. alcohol and tobacco are far more dangerous than pot anyway. but the government has no business telling people what they can or can't put in their bodies.

Way to go! Finally, Rhode Island is doing something right for a change. Go after the big dealers their the ones bringing it into this country anyway. I would'nt be scared to bet my life on the fact the the government has plenty to do with bringing it here as well. Also, most wise people realize that this was a way to lock up more minorities than anyone else because they are the little men in this drug trade. Yes, lets start giving these molesters some real time. Statistics prove they strike agai

it's not about the dealers, its about the cartel that supplies them. There's plenty of murder (including children) to make those long prison sentences justifiable. We're not talking about your local pot grower. These people are working for some of the most violent, corrupt people in the world.

i don't live in rhode island i'm in mass but i feel that why give someone so many years for drugs that is inhumane is not like they killed anyone my son is in prison for similar stuff and among other stuff he is an addict sometimes they do stuff that really is the drug making it do it he has 10 years but yet a child molester will get a lesser amount why is that this is my opinion is that the laws need to change when it comes to drugs i know is illegal but is not right to give high sentence

Drug issues are overrated imo. The old system was much more fair. People need to be given a better chance and better help for turning their life around. Both dealers and consumers. Its ignorant, arrogant, superficial, and inhumane to throw away the key without first contributing to helping those with issues.

Yes, it is about time. People need help not to be hurt by a rotten system. Look at "Progressive House" guys a minority owned recovery house. If you get a grant look it up under providers......we all need help sometimes.

Westerly: Coming from a state w/ horrible sentences for drug crimes, I say good for RI! There are SO many circumstances to consider when passing down a sentence for drug poss. and the like. This is not pre-meditated murder or child molesting where one size fits all. Often, the mandatory minimums are absurdly long. This is a step in the right direction-a lot of these people need HELP when it comes to drugs, not prison.

I guees these well respeced members of the community should be released to deliver their essential goods to our kids. Last time I checked, the casual crackhead wasn't carrying a kilo for personal use.

that is great it would be even better if they consider making it retro. y pass a law and not apply it to the people who r already sufferin from it.
