Disabled Veteran's Struggles with Recycling Policy

Chris Boardman

Alice Arrendondo is a disabled veteran who served in the Gulf War.

She put out some bags in front of her house three weeks ago that had old bathroom tiles, not knowing that the city would not pick them up.

Alice's problem is reflective of that of many Providence residents; she's confused by the city's new recycling policy and isn't getting any answers. ABC6 Reporter John Guice has more...

Again, I put my bins out and trash and my debris was not taken. I am not on SSI I am a molecular biologist. Just because I am hispanic you can not see the problem just like the mayor and his staff.

i think Guice was being a bit dramatic carrying that bag up the steps. that woman that said, "it's very confusing" - what?! put the green and blue bins out! - are you kidding me! what is confusing? sounds like this is someone on ssi, a "disabled" person re-doing her bathroom that wants her de-construction materials picked-up - that's all.

Who said "she" put them out there, maybe a neighbor or a friend took it out for her. Now the city wants her to pay to bring them back into her house. Susan unless you served in our military please keep your comments to yourself. Signed, A Retired Navy Female.

She can do construction work on her house.... She can bring the bags outside... She can't pay someone to take it away? She can't bring the bags back inside? She is a joke, and trying get sympathy saying she is a disable Vet.

First of the comments treating disabled let alone veterans this way in their comments. The fact remains city hall is ignoring senior citizens and handicap complaints and their are state laws protecting them along with vets maybe a good real lawyer should look into this for ABC 6

Bathroom tiles would be considered construction debris. If you can put your trash out every week, then you can put your recycling out every week and your trash will get lighter...bozo's!
