Ellen in North Kingstown. You're an idiot.A typical RI "sheep." This is what many politicians in RI count on when they go for re-election.Kennedy IS an embarassment to RI and a deplorable example for our children. Some people in RI just hear"Kennedy" and they get all glassy-eyed and think "Camelot" or something - just crazy!Doesn't it bother you that he refuses to meet with his constituents? I am not an embarrassment to RI - I just want representation for all all these crazy-high tax dollars I pay

I am a tax payer who does not support abortion but am not opposed to my tax dollars going to someone who feels that it is right for them. The Bishop and his church do not pay taxes and should keep that in mind. The Catholic system has a right to preach against abortion but not to require my taxes to follow their restricted teachings. This is not Iran.

The Church's position is troubling in this matter. The Bishop asserts that religious edict supercedes the Constitutional right to Freedom of Speech. Chris Matthews was correct to advise the bishop to review the teaching of Jesus Christ to "render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars's and to God, the things that are God's.

Why on earth the people of RI keep electing this fool to office is beyond me. Patrick has taken private conversations with the bishop and offered them up for everyone. Doesn't this give you a good idea about how his mind works these days? This man needs to step back and get his mental and physical health together and let someone who is full control of their faculties represent the state of RI.

I have never been a Patrick Kennedy fan. I feel his behavior and antics over the years have been an embarrassment to RI. However this is one time that I feel he actually has a backbone. Our political leaders are put in place to represent us – NOT the church. The catholic church, in my opinion, is trying to influence Kennedy’s decision and Kennedy is pushing back. If the catholic church was to hold everybody by the same standard then Ted Kennedy wouldn’t have had a catholic mass when he died

Force them to adhere to every law that every other business must adhere to. There should be no SPECIAL EXEMPTION for the catholic church when all they care about is thier own views FORCED ON EVERYONE ELSE. Is this the 21st Century versio of the Nazi's? The Bishop Supremist?

Patrick Kennedy is quite possibly one of the worst congressmen in the nation. At least Tobin is getting tired of his garbage. You goons can check off his name next election like you always do and keep Rhode Island heading towards bankruptcy, both monetary and moral. Tobin's doing what he's supposed to. Kennedy started this and Tobin is going to finish so go cry about it.

The Catholic church has been and always will be the defender of it's own faith no matter what. It tries to hide and or ignore the molestations that have occurred in the past and future. Didn't they learn a very long time ago that the curch is for the soul not the pocet book and definately not for politics.

Patrick should just associate himself with a religion that more closely aligns with his beliefs. That's why there are thousands of religions out there. Oh, and by the way? I think that artificial insemination and the like should also be banned - it's unnatural and women aren't made to have litters of kids. We can't keep bringing kids in this world through artificial means, when there are millions starving. No abortion, no artificial insemination... There has to be some population control.

I think the Catholic Church should remember that it's City State is in Rome....not Rhode Island. We are a democracy, not an absolute monarchy (as the Catholic Church bills it self as on the holy see's website). If they want to rule stick to the Vatican, their laws and teachings have no foot hold here. Our Nation comes first and at least the rebel senators realize this.

If you're Catholic, you're obligated to obey the teaching and directives of the Catholic Church. If you're pro-abortion and Catholic, well you're in violation of the Church's teachings and should thus be disciplined up to and including excommunication. This applies to Senators Reed and Kennedy along with Representative Langevin.... Not to even mention that Senator Kennedy is a homosexual... that in of itself is grounds for getting the boot and being denied the sacraments. May God help us..

If Kennedy is being singled out for his stance on abortion, then anyone who has been divorced shouldn't be allowed to take communion either. But we know that won't happen because the church and organized religion are just another business making money. Just like with gay marriage, it's all business decisions for the church. They move with the dollar.

It is Kennedy’s responsibility to represent his constituents, not the Bishop or the Catholic church. Let's see - you can't receive communion because you don't agree with me. You can't get married because you don't fit my idea of marriage, and on it goes. The Bishop and others are welcome to their opinions but don't force them on me. Why is it always about 'taking away from others' instead of giving 'choices' in this land of the free.

Let us all keep the facts straight. Patrick asked the Bishop (in private) to support the Health Care Plan. The Bishop stated (in private) that he could not support a health care plan that supported abortion. Patrick went to the media and ridiculed the Bishop. The Bishop respoded publicly stating that he could not support a Health Care Plan that supported abortion. Patrick asked the Bishop to lighten his views on abortion. The Bishop asked Kennedy (in Private) to reconsider his faith.

As a Congressman it is Kennedy’s responsibility to represent his constituents, not to use his office to advance his own personal feelings or religious beliefs. Shame on the Bishop for attempting to impede Kennedy’s ability to take part in remembering the sacrifice that Christ made for all believers. Isn’t that the objective of communion? Another great example of the hypocrisy within the Catholic church. Keep it up Catholics….the pews keep thinning.
