More Local Faithful Returning To Latin Masses

ABC 6 News Reporter Erica Ricci has the story of an ancient Catholic tradition that's making a comeback in the area - the Latin Mass. Basically, the entire Mass is said in Latin, and its becoming the choice of more and more Catholics when it comes to attending weekly services.

Great story, I'll bet those kids will be serving at the altar before long! Further to Fr. Kocik's comment, it's not really about the Latin. It is shocking to compare the texts of the old and new Masses - the number of prayers which were over-simplified or completely eliminated is very troubling. When I realized this a few years ago, I began to attend the Latin Mass with my family. The Pope is right on with his concerns about re-connecting the Church with its traditions!

The report incorrectly states that priests needed permission to celebrate Mass in Latin until Pope Benedict XVI allowed them to do so more freely. In point of fact, Benedict XVI allowed priests to celebrate the OLD (pre-Vatican II) rite of Mass, which is always in Latin, more freely. No priest has ever needed permission to celebrate the reformed (post-Vatican II) rite of Mass in Latin; in fact, Latin remains the official language of the Mass in *both* forms, old and new.

Saint Leo the Great on Central Ave in Pawtucket holds the Tradional Latin Mass, I believe every third Sunday of the Month at 5:00pm. A beautiful service. I am glad to see the Tradion, return to popularity.
