Dartmouth Pooch Recovering After Being Shot in the Eye

John Eagan

Two-year old Opus looks like a typical playful Irish Setter, unaware that he came very close to losing his life, or even his sight last week.
Rob Ball was walking Opus and his other dog Meadow in the woods behind his Dartmouth home Friday when he heard two shots.
Ball says he then heard a yelp from one of the dogs.
Meadow emerged from the woods leading him to a wounded Opus.
Opus had been shot next to his eye and on his front leg.
Ball carried the dog home to his wife, not sure how badly he was hurt.
After finding a shotgun shell nearby, he and his wife think Opus may have been caught in the crossfire of a hunter's rifle.
ABC 6 reporter Jennifer Gannon has more details on this close call...
