Chris Herren made it all the way to the top, playing for the Boston Celtics.
His family says he almost lost everything Wednesday night, including his life.
Fall River police pulled up on a car that went off the road on Oak Grove Avenue.
They found the former Celtic slumped over the wheel, with a bag of heroin and a syringe on the seat next to him.
Herren, an NBA player for several years in the late 90's through 2001, did stints on the Boston Celtics and the Denver Nuggets, playing against the likes of Shaq and Kobe.
The Fall River native started his basketball career at Durfee High School where he set all sorts of records.
But Herren also has a lengthy record with police.
ABC 6 found 2 separate cases; one involving assault, the other drugs.
Now his brother Mike, another former Durfee High star who has his own sports talk radio show on local WSAR, is now talking about how to get his little brother the help he needs.
