Attleboro Crime Rate Skyrockets Due to Rash of Car Break-ins

John Eagan

A rash of break-ins, the latest over the weekend, has police in one community urging people to lock their doors.  Over 100 cars have been broken into in the city of Attleboro this year, and in the past 2 months alone, the crime rate has gone up 600%.

Police say it is a group of thieves canvassing quiet neighborhoods in the early morning weekend hours, and their targets are unlocked cars.

But even if you lock your doors and the crooks see something valuable inside, you can pretty much count on having your car window replaced along with your belongings.

Rob Krauth lives on Dexter Street where more than a dozen people were robbed over the weekend.  His car was one of the vehicles broken into, but lucky for him the thieves didn't see anything inside his truck that they wanted.  Krauth says he didn't have his car doors locked at the time, but he has now learned his lesson.
