Lethal levels of carbon monoxide have been found in a Rehoboth home and now firefighters are saying that it is amazing that the homeowners are still breathing.
When Rehoboth rescue crews walked up to the Martin Street home Thursday, the beeping from their instruments signaled to them that CO was in the air. Firefighters went inside Jacqueline and Norman Spring's home and their detectors picked up deadly amounts of the gas.
Officials found Mrs. Spring on the front porch, disoriented. They quickly rushed her to the hospital. Apparently, Mr. Spring had already been admitted to Charlton Memorial Hospital with CO poisoning symptoms.
Firefighters put on safety gear and face masks to open up windows, shut off gas and air out the place. They believe a gas heater that was not installed correctly caused the problem. But unfortunately, the home had no carbon monoxide or smoke detectors to alert the couple, and by the time firefighters got their the place was poisonous.
The fire department has marked the home unsafe to live in, but say that's the least of the Spring's problems. Both are still hospitalized 2 days after the incident.
