ABC 6 was first on the scene of a deadly police shooting in New Bedford back in May. On Wednesday authorities released new information in the case.
On May 14th, New Bedford officers Terence O'Shea and Jonathan Lagoa were forced to shoot and kill 45-year old Gerard Tierney. Earlier Tierney had threatened a neighbor at 5 Ellen Street with two knifes.
Officers then cornered him in the home's basement and told him to drop the weapons. They even used mace, but it was evident that Tierney wasn't backing down.
The investigation shows Tierney taunted the officers, calling them 'chicken' and said at one point, 'just shoot me', a clear indication he might have been planning a 'suicide by cop'. Eventually Tierney charged at officers, knives in hand, forcing them to act.
And now the DA's decision has lifted any hanging doubt about the officers conduct that day.
