New Bedford Teen with Gang Ties Shot for the 2nd Time in 3 Months

John Eagan

It has been a bad week for one New Bedford man.  He's in the hospital recovering from gunshot wounds, and it's not his first bout with gun violence.  For 19-year old Vernon Carter it is the second time he has been shot in the last 3 months.

Early Monday morning near Coggeshall and Adams Street, he had just left his friend's house on foot and was shot in the back.  Carter called 911 himself.  Police say they had to search the area to find him because he was hiding from the perpetrators.  They finally found him and rushed him to the hospital.

And back in May he was shot in the arm during an area festival.  Police say Carter has ties to a local gang and has been arrested several times.  They are not sure though if the shootings are connected or not.
