Bones Found in Search for Missing College Student are not Human Remains

The Associated Press

DARTMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say bones found by volunteers searching for a missing college student are not human remains.

Greg Miliote, a spokesman for the Bristol district attorney, tells The Standard-Times of New Bedford that the medical examiner's office determined Monday night the bones found earlier in the day are from an animal.

About 200 volunteers began a search over the weekend for UMass-Dartmouth senior Charles Allen, a Haverhill native who also went by the name Neo Babson Maximus. He disappeared without a trace from the campus a year ago.

The bones were found in a wooded area near Lucy Little and Old Westport roads. A police search of the woods where he was last seen turned up his sneakers and backpack last year.
