Trial Set for Mass. Teen Accused of Stabbing Death in School Bathroom

Chris Boardman

WOBURN, Mass. (AP) - The trial of a Massachusetts teenager charged with fatally stabbing a classmate in the bathroom of a suburban Boston high school has been scheduled for the spring.

A judge ruled Monday that John Odgren will be tried in Middlesex Superior Court in Woburn starting April 5.

Odgren, now 19, is charged with murder in the January 2007 stabbing death of James Alenson at Lincoln-Sudbury High School. Prosecutors say Odgren attacked Alenson - someone he had never met - in a boys' bathroom, slashing his throat with a 13-inch carving knife.

Odgren has been held without bail since his arrest.

The case has been on hold because of a legal battle over jailhouse recordings. The Supreme Judicial Court ruled earlier this month that prosecutors improperly obtained the recordings.
