SUPT.: Student Enters New Bedford School with Weapon

According to Portia S. Bonner, Superintendent of New Bedford Public Schools, a student was caught entering a city school with a weapon.

The incident took place at Roosevelt Middle School and the student was apprehended without incident. Cops have the weapon and the student is being questioned.

As a staff member of Roosevelt Middle School, I don't wish to give my name. However, Dr. Bonner's comments make it appear that a student simply was caught walking into the school with a weapon on their person, as if a metal detector went off or something. The reality of the situation is that the weapon was inside the school for at least half the school day before being apprehended by the administration and the police. This type of behavior has been escalating, and I fear that someone may be hurt
