The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, Taunton Police and the State Police Detectives Unit assigned to this office are investigating a homicide, which occurred in the City of Taunton last night.

Taunton Police received a call from staff members at Morton Hospital in Taunton last night around 11:15 p.m. to report that a deceased man had been driven to the hospital. Doctors at the hospital said the victim was dead on arrival.

The victim has been identified as Chad Fleming, 31, of Deerfield Beach, Fla.

Preliminary investigation has revealed Mr. Fleming was apparently beaten to death in or around 584 Bay St. in Taunton.

Although no arrests have made for the homicide at this time, Nelson Melo, 22, of 584 Bay St., has been charged with witness intimidation in connection to the homicide and will be arraigned today in Taunton District Court.

As the investigation is still in its early stages, no further information regarding the case will be released today. If any further arrests or made, this office will send out another press release at that time.
