Taunton Man Brings Dead Body to Hospital

Chris Boardman

TAUNTON, Mass. (AP) - Authorities have charged a Taunton man who brought the corpse of a visitor who had been beaten to death at his home to the hospital.

Nelson Melo was ordered held on $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty on Wednesday to witness intimidation, a law that includes providing police with false information.

Police say Melo brought the body of 31-year-old Chad Fleming of Deerfield Beach, Fla., to Morton Hospital at about 11 p.m. Tuesday. Doctors determined that Fleming had been dead for several hours.

Police say Melo went on to tell different accounts of what
happened.

Melo's lawyer said in court that his client had nothing to do with Fleming's death.

No one has been charged with Fleming's death and the
investigation continues.
