NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (AP) - Authorities say a New Bedford man sought in a drug investigation has been killed in a gunfight with a state police tactical unit. A trooper wearing body armor was struck during the exchange, but not injured.

State police spokesman David Procopio said the bullet that hit
the officer was fired through an interior wall of an apartment. He
said troopers returned fire, killing the man.

The Plymouth District Attorney'st office identified the man
killed as 32-year-old Thomas Garnett.

Procopio says a weapon was recovered near the dead man, and a preliminary investigation found that he lived in the apartment and had fired the shots at police.

None of the troopers involved in the incident was identified.

not make it all the way through the wall they were stuck in the wooden planks inside the wall and there was a door bell they could have rang but didnt actually if u look at the outer door of the house u can see where they pushed in the window to unlock the door.and my brothers girlfriend was inside the house and didnt hear a knock or the voice that supposedly said police and what is humorous to me is that the second floor door was kicked in also so that shows how well they actually did the job

i find it to be so funny that so many people can say such terrible things about a person they never knew. my brother was a great person kind generous and loving. i was in that house just a few days later and seen things i would never want to see again including the bullet wholes. there is no way he hit a trooper unless said trooper had super powers and knew how to flutter above someones door not to mention they had to dig the bullets out of the wall from the inside the apartment because they did

If someone kicked my door down at 6:00 A.M. I probably would have shot them too! The state police should have announced themselves better. Oh yeah a search warrant for what? one hand gun!
