PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Taking a bus to the beach could be a little harder in Rhode Island this summer.
The state's public transit authority is scaling back its beach bus service to cut costs.
The Providence Journal says the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is discontinuing weekday runs from five communities, but will continue weekend service.
To make up for the cut, RIPTA says it will change the schedule of its regular runs. That will allow for more service to the beach, but it will also be less convenient since most passengers will have to switch buses rather than ride a single one the whole way down.
RIPTA says its beach bus runs are the most expensive service it offers.
