You Paid For It! Lights On, Nobody Home

Bryan Monaghan

People are trying to save money and energy as much as possible these days, including saving both by shutting off unnecessary lights at night. So why isn't the state doing that?

ABC 6 News Chief Reporter Jim Hummel investigates why two new state-owned buildings leave what seems like every light on, all night long. Because You Paid For It.

Then there's technology available from companies like Echelon Inc. where the whole building's energy use can be monitored and controlled. I'm sure the brains at the state level didn't consider an "expensive" system like Echelon's when in design or building phases! McDonalds recently signed a large contract with Echelon and Jim H. highlighted Macy's. Our public buildings should be more effecient than even those companies. It's our dollars going to waste...see $400m state budget shortfall.
