Providence, Rhode Island - Brown University men's basketball coach Craig Robinson has stepped down as head coach of the Bears to become the head coach at Oregon State University of the Pac-10 Conference.

The announcement was made at a 7:00 p.m. EST press conference in Corvallis, Oregon.

"I'm delighted for Craig, but having him leave Brown is a big loss for our university," said Brown Athletic Director Michael Goldberger.

"Craig did a fabulous job at Brown. He was successful on the court, he connected with the student-athletes and was a role model for all students.

Craig made this a better basketball program.

While Craig's success has made our search to hire a top coach much easier, I wish we didn't lose him."

Robinson won more games (30) in his first two years at Brown than any other head coach in school history, posting a 30-28 two-year mark.

He coached the Bears to a school record 19 victories in 2007-2008, winning 10 of their last 11 regular season games, while shattering the previous school record of 17 wins.

The second-year Brown coach also led the Bears to their fourth ever post-season tournament berth, competing in the College Basketball Invitational.

Robinson's team posted an 11-3 Ivy League mark, second best in Brown history, and good for second place in the Ivy standings.

Robinson, the 2008 Rhode Island Division I Coach of the Year, coached Brown to its first ever sweep of Princeton and Penn, including a 32-point victory over Penn, giving the Quakers their largest Ivy League loss ever.

As a team, Brown set a single season record with 227 three-point field goals.

A national search for his successor will be launched immediately.
