Drake coach Keno Davis had no idea he would become a hot coaching prospect when he sat at the end of his dad's bench at the University of Iowa.
The son of Dr. Tom Davis grew up with basketball but never played college ball.
Keno grew up in Massachusetts where his dad coached the Boston College Eagles.
Keno become an assistant for Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana, the same Bruce Pearl who has now lifted Tennessee into national prominance.
From there, he spent time as an assistant under Gary Garner (a former Drake coach) at Southeast Missouri State.
When Dr. Tom became head coach at Drake, Keno became his top assistant.
The school then worked out a deal where Keno would take over when his father retired.
Last season was his first as a head coach after taking over for his dad and Keno made his father proud.
He guided Drake to a record 28 wins and the Bulldogs first NCAA Tournament appearance in 37 years.
Drake was upset in the first round of the Tournament by a Western Kentucky three point buzzer beater.
The 36 year old Keno was named national coach of the year by the Associated Press and five other media organizations.
He also had two books to his credit. He is the co-author of "Pressure Defense" which was published in 1994 and author of "Camp Success" published in 2004.
He is the 24th head coach at Drake.
