Beckett Comes Off DL; Will Pitch Friday in Arlington

AP

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Josh Beckett is back in the rotation tonight as the Red Sox open a three-game series against the Texas Rangers.

The right-hander is expected to take the mound after coming off the disabled list because of an inflamed elbow. Beckett (11-9) hasn't played in the majors since mid-August, but threw 58 pitches during a bullpen session before Tuesday's game against Baltimore.

But the Red Sox have fared quite well without him. The team has won eight of its last ten, including a three-game sweep of the Orioles this week.

Boston trails Tampa Bay by three-and-a-half games in the AL East, but has a five-and-a-half game lead over Minnesota in the AL wild card race.

Kevin Millwood (9-7) is scheduled to start for Texas tonight.
