Boston Bruins Trim Roster to 22 Players




Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins, entering their 18th season in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins have assigned forwards Zach Hamill and Brad Marchand to Providence. Both players spent the entire 2008-09 season in Rhode Island.



Hamill, who turned 21 on September 23, skated in six preseason games for Boston, registering two goals. The center enjoyed his first full professional season with the P-Bruins last year, totaling 26 points (13g, 13a) in 65 regular season games before adding six points (g, 5a) in 16 Calder Cup playoff contests. Prior to turning pro, Hamill spent parts of five junior seasons in the Western Hockey League with the Everett Silvertips, where he captained the club and recorded 299 points (97g, 202a) in 312 total games. Including a late-season appearance for Providence in 2007-08 following his junior career, the native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, has posted 31 career points (13g, 18a) in 72 regular season games and 10 points (2g, 8a) in 25 playoff contests as a professional. The Bruins selected Hamill with the 8th overall pick in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.



Marchand, 21, appeared in five preseason games for Boston, scoring two goals. He enters his second professional season after leading all P-Bruins rookies with 59 points (18g, 41a) in 79 regular games during the 2008-09 campaign. The winger added 15 points (7g, 8a) in 16 postseason match-ups as Providence advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. For his efforts, Marchand was voted the P-Bruins’ Rookie of the Year by his teammates at the end of the season. During the year, he was also named the Reebok Edge/AHL Rookie of the Month and Providence’s Player of the Month for January after totaling 16 points (5g, 11a) in 13 games. Prior to turning pro, Marchand spent four seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, notching 327 points (127g, 200a) in 310 overall games split between the Moncton Wildcats, Val d’Or Foreurs and Halifax Mooseheads. Boston selected Marchand 71st overall in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
