Lefebvre, Marchand and Sobotka are NHL-Bound




Providence, RI – The Providence Bruins, in their 18th year in the American Hockey League, announced that the National Hockey League’s Boston Bruins have recalled forwards Guillaume Lefebvre, Brad Marchand and Vladimir Sobotka and placed forward Milan Lucic on Long Term Injured Reserve. Lefebvre’s recall is on an emergency basis. With the moves, the P-Bruins have 21 players on their roster, including 11 forwards, eight defensemen and two goaltenders.



Lefebvre, 28, returns to Boston after a brief one-game assignment to Providence. The veteran winger was recalled to Boston on Saturday and traveled to Arizona for the parent Bruins’ 4-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes that evening. Lefebvre saw 11:01 of ice-time while going scoreless.



After being assigned to Providence this morning, Lefebvre appeared in the P-Bruins’ 7-2 win over the Portland Pirates this afternoon and collected 17 penalty minutes. In five games for Providence this season, the native of Amos, Quebec, registered one assist and 42 PIM. He appeared in his 400th professional game against the Hartford Wolf Pack on October 9. Lefebvre was invited to Boston’s training camp on a tryout agreement and appeared in five preseason games before signing a one-year contract with the club on September 26.



Marchand, 21, earns his first career NHL recall after recording at least one point in all six of Providence’s games this season. In the P-Bruins’ win today, Marchand finished with a goal, an assist and a plus-three rating. On the season, the second-year winger has totaled six goals and two assists for eight points, good for a third-place tie on the P-Bruins. His six goals rank him tied for first in the AHL.



Marchand was assigned to Providence on September 28 after appearing in five preseason games for Boston, where he netted two goals. The native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, was named Providence’s Rookie of the Year in 2008-09 after appearing in 79 regular season games and totaling 59 points (18g, 41a). Marchand added 15 points (7g, 8a) in 16 postseason contests as a rookie. Boston selected Marchand 71st overall in the third round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.



Sobotka, 22, gets the call to Boston for the first time this season after splitting his first two pro seasons between the NHL and AHL. This season, the center has 10 points (4g, 6a) in six games for Providence, ranking him second on the P-Bruins in scoring. His 10 points also sit him in a third-place tie for the league-lead. Sobotka finished today’s win over Portland as the game’s first star for Providence after totaling two goals, two assists and a plus-three rating.



The native of Trebic, Czech Republic, was assigned to Providence on September 30 after skating in seven preseason games, where he tallied a goal and an assist. In his career, Sobotka has appeared in 73 regular season NHL games, totaling 12 points (2g, 10a), along with six Stanley Cup playoff contests, where he has scored two goals. In the AHL, Sobotka has suited up for 68 regular season games, registering 74 points (34g, 40a), and 20 Calder Cup playoff games, where he recorded 17 points (2g, 15a). The third-year pro was drafted by Boston 106th overall in round four of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
