Back at The Dunk Friday vs. Springfield Falcons


Worcester, MA – The Providence Bruins defeated the Worcester Sharks 5-3 Sunday afternoon at the DCU Center. The P-Bruins got their goals from Jamie Arniel, Mikko Lehtonen, Drew Larman and two goals from Jeff LoVecchio. The P-Bruins return to action at home at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Friday at 7:05 p.m. for Dunkin’ Donuts Mug Night against the Springfield Falcons.

The P-Bruins took a 1-0 advantage at the 4:35 mark of the opening period. Lehtonen held the puck in the corner and passed it to Marquardt in the high slot. He blasted the puck towards the goal, where it was tipped into the net by Arniel for his third goal of the season. Providence made it 2-0 at the 9:26 mark. Kirk MacDonald had the puck halfway up the boards and fed it to Jordan Knackstedt in the right face off circle. He found LoVecchio in the slot, who netted his sixth goal of the season. The P-Bruins led 2-0 after the first period.

The Sharks pulled within a goal only 43 seconds into the second period. Danny Groulx tallied his second goal of the season, while Andrew Desjardins and Frazer McLaren recorded the assists. Worcester tied the game at two at the 16:13 mark. Steven Zalewski netted his sixth goal of the season, while Desjardins and John McCarthy picked up the assists. The game went into the second intermission tied at two.

Providence retook the lead at the 5:10 mark of the third period. Arniel held the puck in the corner and passed it backdoor to Lehtonen, who tallied his seventh goal of the season. At the 18:20 mark, the Sharks tied the game at three. Brandon Mashinter scored his fifth goal of the season, while Michael Wilson and Torrey Mitchell grabbed the assists. Only seven seconds later the P-Bruins went ahead 4-3. Jeff Penner skated the puck down the right wing and left it off to Craig Weller, who was moving towards the net. Weller found Larman in front of the net as Larman tallied his first goal of the season. Providence added an empty net goal at the 19:34 mark. LoVecchio scored his second goal of the game and seventh of the season, while MacDonald and Dany Sabourin had the assists. The P-Bruins went on to the 5-3 victory.

Sabourin stopped 27 of 30 shots for the P-Bruins, while Alex Stalock made 18 saves for the Sharks. The P-Bruins were 0-for-4 on the power play and 7-for-7 on the penalty kill.

The P-Bruins return home for a three game weekend beginning Friday at The Dunk for Dunkin’ Donuts Mug Night at 7:05 p.m. versus the Springfield Falcons. The P-Bruins face the Sharks at The Dunk Saturday for Poster Night at 7:05 p.m., before wrapping up the weekend at The Dunk Sunday at 4:05 p.m. for a Family Game against the Manchester Monarchs.
