NEW YORK (AP) - UConn men's center Hasheem Thabeet earned some hardware tonight on the eve of the Big East tournament.

The 7-foot-3 sophomore was named defensive player of the year.
He blocked a Big East-record 94 shots this season.

Player of the year honors went to Notre Dame sophomore Luke
Harangody.

Fighting Irish coach Mike Brey won coach of the year for
the second straight season.

The Huskies have a first-round bye in the tournament and will
play the winner of the Providence-West Virginia game on Thursday.
