NEW YORK -- The University of Rhode Island is among the 32-team field for the 2008 MasterCard National Invitation Tournament (NIT), announced live on ESPN2 and ESPNU on Sunday night.
The Rams (21-11) enter the NIT as a #6 seed and will take on #3 Creighton (21-10) in Omaha, Neb. at 10 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
This marks the 12th appearance in the NIT for URI. Rhody's last trip to the NIT came in 2004, when the Rams downed Boston University, 80-52, before falling at West Virginia, 79-72.
ESPN will provide television coverage for every game of the MasterCard NIT, which is played regionally for the first three rounds before playing the semi-finals and final round in New York's Madison Square Garden, the tournament's home since 1938. The championship doubleheader is slated for April 1 followed by the championship game, April 3.
