FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Rhode Island senior thrower Jasmine Jennings qualified for the finals of the women's hammer throw at the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.
Jennings' throw of 193 feet, 8 inches came on her second attempt. The Warwick, R.I., native will join 11 other student-athletes in the event final, which is set to begin on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
"I just cleared my head, stayed within the circle and focused on posting a strong mark," Jennings said of her performance. "I am very excited for the final and I am hopeful for a strong showing."
The 2009 season marks the second NCAA Championships appearance for Jennings.
"It's a lot better to have a year of experience under my belt," Jennings said. "I just felt confident and in more control this time around."
