NEW LONDON, Conn.--Connecticut College senior Sharon Katz of Barrington, R.I. has been named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine District One Women’s Soccer All-Academic Second Team. A third team selection in 2008, Katz is making her second straight appearance on the District 1 squad.

Katz accounted for 10 points this fall to lead the Camel offense. She scored three goals and finished seventh in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with four assists. In her four years as a Camel, Katz amassed 15 goals, six assists and 36 points.

Connecticut College women’s soccer coach Winnie Edmed was pleased to hear of Katz’s achievement.

“We are so lucky to have a player in our program like Sharon,” Edmed said. “She works hard every day, has a great attitude, her teammates love her, and she is extremely talented.”

Katz made an immediate impact on the program, netting four scores in her freshman season. She was honored by her peers as the 2006 Rookie of the Year. Katz was recognized as the NESCAC Player of the Week Oct. 1, 2007 and closed out her sophomore season with four goals, two assists and 10 points. She netted a team-high four goals in 2008.
