BRANDON STEPHENS HONORED AGAIN BY LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Once again, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s men’s basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.

Junior forward Brandon Stephens (Dorchester, MA/Newton North HS) has been named Little East Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. It’s the second time this season that Stephens has been so honored.

Stephens averaged 26.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and three steals per game as the Corsairs won at Tufts and Southern Maine. He tied his career high with 32 points against the Huskies on Saturday, making 11 of 20 shots from the field, including five three-pointers. He scored 21 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the victory at Tufts.



“Brandon is well-desrving of this award,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. “He is putting up big numbers as far as scoring is concerned. In addition, he is playing with a tremendous amount of energy, and he works hard every day in practice and in every game.”



The Corsairs are 15-6 overall, 7-3 in the LEC. They will return to action when they host UMass Boston in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.

Rius has been named LEC Diver of the Week. Rius won both of her events against Colby-Sawyer last week, taking the one-meter diving competition with 190.20 points, and the three meter diving with 159.320. “Cecilia continues to prove that she is a big asset as a freshman diver,” said UMass Dartmouth Diving Coach Danielle Morley. “She finished out the season strong this past weekend diving against Colby-Sawyer. Her hard work has earned her a qualifying spot in the one-meter diving event at the New England Swimming and Diving Championships to be held at Bentley this weekend.” The Corsairs will return to action when they visit the New England Division II and III Diving Championships this weekend. Miranda has been named LEC Men’s Co-Rookie Field Athlete of the Week. Miranda won the long jump at Saturday’s Tufts Stampede with a leap of 21 feet, 5 ½ inches. “Kaylin won that meet on his last jump, which shows his competitive nature,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Steve Gardiner. “He is in the midst of having an outstanding freshman year, having already qualified provisionally for the NCAAs with a jump of 22 feet, 9 ½ inches.” The Corsairs will return to action at the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships at Southern Maine Saturday.
