Boston closer to playoffs after 10-3 win over KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - David Ortiz homered and drove in three
runs, and Clay Buchholz took a shutout into the seventh inning to
help the Boston Red Sox move closer to the postseason with a 10-3
win over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night.

Jacoby Ellsbury had four hits and two RBIs, Victor Martinez
extended his hitting streak to 23 games and Dustin Pedroia pushed
his to 16 games, moving Boston within four games of clinching the
AL wild card. The Red Sox had 15 hits and have won 12 of 16 with a
weekend road series against the AL East-leading Yankees up next.

Royals starter Anthony Lerew (0-1) had a solid return to the
majors and Billy Butler hit a two-run homer for Kansas City.
