TORONTO (AP) - The Toronto Blue Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 last night. Pinch-hitter Danny Valencia hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning for the Blue Jays. Red Sox slugger David Ortiz returned to the lineup after sitting out the previous two games with a sore right foot. He gave the Red Sox their first hit with a one-out single in the fourth.
TORONTO (AP) - Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts has passed baseball's mandatory concussion tests and been cleared to rejoin the team in Tampa Bay on Saturday. Bogaerts suffered a concussion when he was hit on the helmet by a pitch from Seattle's Felix Hernandez last Friday.

NEW YORK (AP) - Ecuador will play Bolivia in an exhibition game on September 6th at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ecuador will also play the United States on October 10th at Ecuador at East Hartford, Connecticut. That's the final scheduled international match for American star Landon Donovan, who plans to retire at the end of the Major League Soccer season.
BOSTON (AP) - Boston College football coach Steve Addazio is entering his second season at the school with a new quarterback and a lot of young players. In his first year, the Eagles improved by five wins and returned to a bowl game for the first time in three seasons. Addazio says this year holds a lot of unknowns.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP) - Former major league baseball player Jose Offerman is appealing a federal court order that he pay $940,000 to a catcher injured during a minor league brawl in Connecticut in 2007. Last month, a jury awarded the money to former Bridgeport Bluefish catcher Johnathan Nathans. He says he suffered career-ending injuries when Offerman hit him in the head with a bat.
