PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island health department says seven more people have died of accidental overdoses in Rhode Island, bringing the number this year to 85. Dr. Michael Fine reported the new number today at an event highlighting the state's efforts to combat the crisis.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A spokesman for Providence Mayor Angel Taveras (tuh-VEHR'-us) says city documents pertaining to former House Speaker Gordon Fox have been subpoenaed by federal officials. David Ortiz says federal law enforcement subpoenaed the documents yesterday. He declined today to identify which agency contacted the city or say what officials had asked for.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Pawtucket man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 2008 killing of his ex-girlfriend, avoiding a third trial in Mayra Cruz's death. Juan Diaz was twice convicted but appeals courts each time ordered a new trial.

TIVERTON, R.I. (AP) - When a fire hydrant crashed through the window of a Rhode Island restaurant managers said for the first time they were glad they had no customers. The Herald News of Fall River reports that an SUV struck the hydrant at about noon yesterday, launching it 60 feet through the window at China Gourmet, where it wiped out a table and two chairs before crashing into a beverage cooler. No one was hurt. The restaurant had not opened for the day, but the hydrant shook up the staff.
