PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island's health insurance marketplace has again extended the deadline to enroll in a health plan and pay to have coverage begin next month. HealthSource RI says individuals now have until December 31st to select a plan and must pay by January 6th if they want their coverage to begin on January 1st. The most recent deadline for individuals had been December 23rd.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A religious group wants the Roman Catholic bishop of Providence to apologize for a statement following Nelson Mandela's death in which he called Mandela's support for abortion "shameful." A petition delivered to the diocese today calls Bishop Thomas Tobin's "shameful and mean-spirited attack on Nelson Mandela is an embarrassment to the church."
NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - General Dynamics Electric Boat has reached an agreement to extend its lease at Quonset Business Park for 25 years and plans to expand there. Under the terms of the agreement announced by Governor Lincoln Chafee today, Electric Boat will grow its footprint at the North Kingstown business park by about 42 acres, including 1 million square feet of building space.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A one-time Providence highway superintendent who served in the administration of former Mayor Vincent "Buddy" Cianci (see-AN'-see) has been released from prison after serving time for drug charges. WPRI-TV reports Edward "Buckles" Melise (muh-LEE'-see) was released yesterday from a federal prison in Massachusetts and brought to a halfway house at an undisclosed location.
