PROVIDENCE, RI-- Rhode Island made history today by opening the first ever charter school for nursing in the nation in downtown Providence.
Approximately 130 high school students are attending The Rhode Island Nurses Institute Middle College Charter School. Students take science and math courses that will smoothly transition them into a college nursing program.
Rhode Island continues to have one of the highest unemployment rates in the nation with the exception of the field of health care. It's estimated that Rhode Island will need to hire at least 7,000 new nurses within the next decade.
